Dae Hair Review
Today I’m doing a full-brand review of Dae Hair, a clean beauty brand founded by blogger Amber Fillerup. Known for its Arizona-inspired citrus scents, bright packaging, and easy-to-use formulas, I’ve loved trying their products over the years. While some of the products have been disappointing, overall I think it’s a great brand you can rely on for incredible-smelling styling products. Keep reading for reviews of each product, what I recommend (and what I wouldn’t buy again) and tips for saving money on Dae products.
dae shampoo and conditioner review
Dae currently offers a few different shampoo and conditioner options - the Signature Shampoo and Conditioner, as well as the Violet Hour Shampoo. I’ve also tested the Monsoon Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner set, which seems to be discontinued.
Skip all of their shampoos and conditioners - they smell amazing (and the scent is long-lasting), but dry out your hair like crazy (even the conditioner). I really thought they worked well initially, but noticed the quality of my hair had taken a turn after a few weeks. My hair felt like straw and I started to notice breakage around my face, which is something I’ve never dealt with before, and I’ve been coloring my hair for years.
I thought I might be an outlier, so I also had my mom test the Dae Signature Shampoo and Conditioner. Her hair is thicker than mine and not color-treated, but she had similar results and felt like the products sucked the moisture out of her hair. While the scents are enticing, I wouldn’t recommend buying these.
dae monsoon moisture mask review
The Dae Monsoon Moisture Mask is good, not great; I think there are better options on the market (like this one, which is also clean-beauty certified). The Dae mask smells very fresh; I wish there was a perfume available. It’s a very thick, buttery consistency, yet it applies to your hair like a dream. It makes your hair silky soft and tames all frizziness initially, but like their shampoos and conditions, I found it to be drying over time. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the fragrance (just a guess), but for $32, I would skip this.
dae prickly pear hair oil review
Probably one of my top two Dae hair products, the Prickly Pear Hair Oil is an absolute dream and an essential part of my haircare lineup. It’s versatile as far as oils go, so you really do get your money’s worth. It hydrates and adds shine, but isn’t superficially slick, like how some hair oils just sit on top of your hair. One of the thicker hair oils on the market, it isn’t too heavy for my fine hair and the smell is incredible. I like that it functions as both a styling product and a hair treatment; I can use it to treat my hair daily without having to schedule in a mask or coordinate with my wash schedule. Instead of a shine-enhancing hair spray, I really like this hair oil as the finishing touch after I curl my hair.
dae mirage mist leave-in conditioner review
My other top favorite Dae product, this Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner is a cult favorite for a reason. Their previous version had issues with the spray nozzle, so they reformulated it and now it works perfectly. It detangles, hydrates your hair, and makes it so soft. I know some people apply this to damp hair before they use a hair dryer, but I let my hair air dry so I like to apply it and leave it in all day, and then wash it out at night like a treatment. Applying too much will make your hair a little crunchy, but it doesn’t dry out your hair. If I had to pick only one Dae product, I would probably pick the hair oil, and then ask for this for Christmas haha.
dae stargloss shine treatment gloss review
The Stargloss Shine Treatment Gloss is good, but I think it’s more of a “cute” product than something I can’t live without; it’s really true to the fun, “romanticize your life” vibe that dae is all about. This is a prewash treatment that you apply a few hours before you wash your hair, and it smooths and hydrates hair while also providing a fun, glittery finish. I personally think there are better hydrating hair products out there, and this was too difficult to apply evenly to my hair to be worth repurchasing in the future.
dae fairy duster dry shampoo powder review
I rarely use dry shampoo, so I don’t have much to compare it to, but the Fairy Duster Dry Shampoo Powder is a miss. I wanted to love it because it’s a non-aerosol dry shampoo, and the packaging is environmentally friendly, but I couldn’t make it work. This dry shampoo left a film and slightly weighed-down my fine hair; I definitely had that “product feel” no matter how little I used, or even if I used the Dae blending brush. This may work on you if you have thick, extra dirty hair, but skip it if you have dark hair, because it leaves a residue. My hair is highlighted, so my roots aren’t super dark, and I still noticed where I had applied the dry shampoo.
dae agave dry heat & hold styling mist review
The Dae Agave Dry Heat and Hold Styling Mist is a dream, and one of my favorite heat protectants. I love it because it feels like nothing in your hair; it’s so lightweight yet it helps hold curls all day, so the “hold styling” aspect definitely works. The scent is fruity, yet not so strong that it gives me a headache. It adds shine to my hair, doesn’t dry it out, and I am surprised by how often get compliments whenever I use this product.
dae cactus fruit 3-in-1 styling cream with taming wand review
Another Dae standout, the Cactus Fruit 3-in-1 Styling Cream with Taming Wand is incredible. I’ve personally used my eyebrow gel to tame flyaways in the past (love a multi-use product), but Dae’s version is really worth going out of the way to repurchase. The wand gets every baby hair for a perfect slicked-back look, and it really smooths your hair down without leaving a super crunchy finish. I will say that the wand is meant for baby hairs or on-the-go touch-ups; don’t use it to brush your hair into a bun or it might damage the wand. I really like this as a travel-friendly alternative to a pomade, and will continue to buy it again and again.
dae hibiscus wave spray review
Full transparency: this wave spray is hit or miss; I think if your straight hair doesn’t have any layers, it will be a miss for you, because that illusion of texture really enhances the results. I have found that it works best on next-day hair if you put your hair in a messy bun for a little (dry or damp) to give the product some bends to cling to (similar to the “scrunch” method that works well for wavy or curly hair). It’s also going to add a beach texture to curls if you heat style it. I like that this doesn’t tangle my hair or leave it feeling dirty, and it makes my hair shiny, too. Most Dae hair products smell great, but this product is stronger stronger than the rest of their line, so I would skip this if you are sensitive to fragrance, as it noticeably lasts all day - I skip pperfume when I wear this one, but it doesn’t give me a headache.
are dae hair products worth it?
Some are, some aren’t, to be completely honest. Overall, the brand is great and I think they make really beautifully scented, colorful, and fun products, and are one of the better clean beauty hair brands.

where to buy dae hair products
You can purchase Dae Hair products at Amazon, Sephora, or directly from the brand website. I recommend subscribing on Amazon to save money, or through Sephora if you belong to their loyalty program. I have purchased from Dae directly and found the shipping to be quick and their customer service to be helpful - I received a broken candle and they sent a replacement without issue.
