Undressed Tans The Nudist Dark Tanning Mousse Review

Undressed Tans has quickly become one of my favorite self-tanning brands that caters sensitive skin. All of their self-tanners are vegan, cruelty-free, use 100% Natural DHA, are free of parabens, phthalate, sulfate, gluten, and are dematologist and clinically tested.

They’re also designed to give you a “realistic” tan even if you have extra-pale skin. The Undressed Tans Light/ Medium Self-Tanning Lotion has become one of my favorite self-tanning products (view my review and results here), It’s my favorite self-tanning lotion, so I was eager to try its sister product, The Nudist Dark Tanning Mousse. Created to give you a post-beach vacation glow, this self-tanning mousse is beginner friendly, easy to use, and with a little experimentation, I grew to love the results it gave me.

The Undressed Tans The Nudist Dark Tanning Mousse is overall a great product, and it’s sure to become a staple for my fellow pale-skinned girls that want a natural yet healthy glow. Keep reading for my full review and tips for getting the most out of this self-tanning mousse (hint: second coat required) to ensure a flawless application.

undressed tans the nudist dark tanning mousse review and application tips

The Undressed Tans The Nudist Dark Tanning Mousse is a really nice self-tanner for those with pale, sensitive skin who want a sun-kissed glow that isn’t too deep or orange. It’s easy to use (and remove, if you make a mistake), and the tan looks like you spent a day at the beach.

The foam is clear, so while you don’t have a color guard to guide your application, you also don’t have to worry about transfer onto your clothes or sheets. The product is technically unscented, which is ideal for sensitive skin types, yet you will notice a slight chemical scent when you first apply. It goes away as the mousse dries down. The next day, you might also notice the “self-tanner smell,” but it’s very, very subtle.

This product ideally requires 6-8 hours of application time (with a second coat applied halfway through) for maximum results, and the tan will develop for up to 24 hours after. Regarding results, you get a beautiful, natural looking tan - not orange at all, but also not super dark. This tanner has “clean” ingredients that makes it safe for sensitive skin, but the results aren’t as dramatic as some of the other mousses you might be used to (like Loving Tan). That being said, I wouldn’t recommend this for medium to deep skin tones, as the tan might be too subtle. Instead, use the Lux Unfiltered N36 Deep Supernatural Tanning Mousse, which is also sensitive-skin friendly and easy to use (my review and results are here).

Even with daily workouts and hot showers, the tan lasts a full four days, fades nicely, and removes easily with an exfoliating mitt. If you want to make the tan last longer, I recommend applying the Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion every other day (see my full review on the tanning lotion here).

tips for applying the nudist dark tanning mousse

  • Use a mitt for a streak-free application that won’t stain your hands. I like to use a brush to buff in the product and help blend out trickier areas like elbows, wrists, knees and ankles.

  • The first time I tested this tanner, I applied one coat, left it on for 6 hours, then showered before bed. I did not notice much of a tan the next day; it was disappointing, to be honest, especially since it’s their Dark Tanning Mousse (versus Light/ Medium). To get the most out of this product, you want to apply a second coat at the halfway mark.

  • For best results, I applied the product at 2pm, left it on for 4 hours, applied another coat, waited another 4 hours, and then showered before bed (8 hours total application time). I noticed a very slight difference after my shower, and woke up with a subtle tan that deepened each day. I let the product continue to develop for 24 hours and took the photos at the same time the next day.

  • There’s no added scent to this self-tanning mousse, which I loved because fragrance is unnecessary and can irritate sensitive skin. I did notice a slight chemical scent when I first applied it, but it wasn’t overwhelming and faded as the self-tanning mousse dried down. I also noticed the “self-tanner smell” the next day, but it was more subtle than other self-tanners, especially since I applied two coats of this overall.

  • The mousse is clear, so there’s color guard - you don’t necessarily have to worry about the color transferring onto your sheets or clothes, but I still recommend wearing darker, loose fitted clothes just in case.

where to buy undressed tans the nudist dark tanning mousse

FAQs about undressed tans the nudist dark tanning mousse

is undressed tans the nudist dark tanning mousse suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. My skin is extremely sensitive and I did not get a reaction, even with the second coat applied halfway through.

does undressed tans the nudist dark tanning mousse break you out?

Not in my experience. I had a friend who is more acne-prone test this mousse as well, and she didn’t have a problem, but I would consult with your dermatologist if you are concerned.

how long does it take for the tan to develop?

The website doesn’t really specify how long to leave this tanning mousse on, nor how long it takes to see results. In my experience with this mousse, I left the product on for 8 hours, with a second coat applied halfway through. I showered before bed, and noticed a slight tan, and deeper color when I woke up the next morning. I saw full results about 24 hours after initial application.

how long does the tan last?

The Nudist Dark Tanning Mousse isn’t the most longest-lasting self-tanner, but that’s because it’s a more gentle, skin-sensitive formulation. The tan lasted a full 4 days, then started fading, and was fully gone by day 6. To make the tan last longer (especially if you’re on vacation), I recommend applying the Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion every other day (see my full review on the tanning lotion here).

is undressed tans the nudist dark tanning mousse easy to remove?

Yes, and it’s much easier to remove than other self-tanning mousses you may be used to (like Loving Tan). I noticed the tan started to fade around day 4, and on day 5, I used an exfoliating mitt at around the 6th or 7th day to lightly buff out the tan. It was fully gone by day 5.
