Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion Review
Undressed Tans is a self-tanning brand that’s always caught my eye. One of the co-founders, Jessica Payne, has gorgeous skin and is pale like me, yet her tan looks incredibly natural (without being too subtle), so I’ve always wanted to try out the products. Undressed Tans offers self-tanning products that are pale-skin friendly, but because I like a deeper tan, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I bought all three products (check out my reviews of their Au Naturel Gradual Tanning Mousse and The Nudist Dark Tanning Mousse here and here), but the lotion had me most skeptical since self-tanning lotions are more subtle yet way easier to mess up.
Long story short, I loved the Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion and it’s the best self-tanning lotion I’ve used - it’s beginner friendly and gives you a deep yet natural tan. Keep reading for my full review, before and after results, and tips for a flawless application.

undressed tans the nudist light/ medium tanning lotion review and application tips
I LOVED the Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion - it was easier to apply than most self-tanning lotions, gave me an even tan, and didn’t irritate my sensitive skin.
You’ll notice subtle results 8 hours after your first application, with a vacation-like tan after three consecutive applications. It dries down well and doesn’t leave you feeling sticky or greasy, yet your skin doesn’t feel dry, either. The first application gave me a subtle tan, and the second application was comparable to my results with Loving Tan 2 HR Express Mousse in Dark, but this tanning lotion felt way more gentle on my skin. I applied it a third time to make sure the tan wouldn’t turn orange, but it was a beautiful, vacation-like glow.
The bronze color guard makes it easy to avoid streaks or patches, but it also didn’t transfer onto my sheets, which I was nervous about. The tan itself was natural yet noticeable, and didn’t look orange or fake at all. Lastly, most self-tanning lotions irritate my sensitive skin, especially since you have to apply it a few nights in a row, but my skin was completely fine.
The only downside to this self-tanning lotion is that it doesn’t last very long; you’ll notice it start to fade the day after you stop application. To work around this, I recommend applying it every other day (use your normal moisturizer on “off” days). I wouldn’t rely on the Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion for my vacation tan because it does fade quickly, but it would be a great “booster” to prolong your tan while you’re there.
Overall, the Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion gives you a beautiful, natural looking tan - not orange at all. The brand only offers the Light/ Medium shade, and I was a little concerned that it wouldn’t give me as much of a tan that I wanted, but I was very impressed and have already repurchased it again - if I didn’t test so many self-tanners on a regular basis, I’d definitely put this one on an auto-ship.
tips for applying the nudist light/ medium tanning lotion
The website says to use a tanning mitt to apply this tanning lotion, but I don’t recommend it. I prefer using plastic gloves - even if the gloves are too big for you, you won’t get creases in your application as long as you fully buff in the tanning lotion.
The website also says to use a “generous amount” for application. I used a normal amount instead, because I find that extra layers of self-tanning lotion can sometimes sit on your skin and are easier to smudge/ mess up, rather than deepen your tan.
If anything, you could apply a normal coat of the lotion, and then a few hours later (typically around the halfway mark), do a second application. This is what I do for self-tanning mousses; I personally prefer to apply self-tanning lotion a few nights in a row instead of layer it on all at once.
Use your hands to apply the self-tanning lotion in circular motions. Start with your legs and work your way up, stopping at your waist, and then start at your neck/ chest and work your way down to your stomach for the most even all-over tan.
What sets this self-tanning lotion apart from other lotions is that there’s a subtle bronze color, which acts as a color guard and helps you apply the tan evenly. It definitely made the application process easier, especially around trouble areas like elbows and wrists.
If you use your hands instead of gloves, don’t forget to wash your hands thoroughly afterwards, paying close attention to your palms, fingertips around your cuticles, and in between your fingers.
To avoid a harsh line with your hands, I like to put a tiny little drop of lotion onto the top of a brush to buff in the product and help blend the product onto the backs of my hands/ fingers. For more tips on tanning your hands and other tricky areas, click here.
I applied the product after showering and before bed around 10pm, leaving it on overnight before showering in the morning. Prior to my morning shower, I noticed a subtle tan, but it took 3 total applications to get a deep tan similar to what you might expect with Loving Tan or St. Tropez products.
I typically hate wearing self-tanner overnight, but didn’t mind it with this one; I think lotions kind of require it, since they’re easier to crease or mess up with natural movement throughout the day.
This tanner dries down well; it does not feel greasy, sticky, or damp on your skin. Wait 5-10 minutes before getting dressed after application to avoid any creases or smudges with your tan.
Even though this lotion has a bronze tint, I did not notice any transfer onto my sheets or clothes. I still recommend wearing darker, loose fitted clothes just in case.
The tanner initially has a subtle fruity smell when you first apply it, then it turns into the typical self-tanner smell. This is pretty common, so it didn’t affect my overall impression of the tanner. The smell isn’t completely awful and not as noticeable as other tanning lotions are.
Ready to remove the tan? Use an exfoliating polish or body scrub as opposed to an exfoliating mitt - scrubs gives better, quicker results when it comes to removing self-tanning lotion.

FAQs about undressed tans the nudist light/ medium tanning lotion
is undressed tans the nudist light/ medium tanning lotion suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. My skin is extremely sensitive, especially when it comes to self-tanning lotions, and I did not get a reaction, even after three consecutive days of application.
does undressed tans the nudist light/ medium tanning lotion break you out?
Not in my experience. I also had an acne-prone friend test the lotion, and she did not have a problem either, but I would consult with your dermatologist if you are concerned.
how long does it take for the tan to develop?
You’ll see a subtle tan when you wash it off 8 hours later, with full results 24 hours after your application. There’s a subtle tan after first application, but I liked it best after three consecutive applications.
how long does the tan last?
Tanning lotions tend to last longer than tanning mousses, but I found that this self-tanning lotion started to fade the day after I stopped application. The tan then lasted another day or two before it looked a little patchy. You could get the tan to last longer by applying it every other day as maintenance.
is undressed tans the nudist light/ medium tanning lotion easy to remove?
This was the easiest self-tanning lotion to remove by far. It was mostly gone after one light shower exfoliation, and fully gone after the second. I recommend using an exfoliating mitt over an exfoliating scrub to lightly buff off the tan. Lotions are a little tricker to apply for me, and I did make a mistake near my wrist, but it was very easy to remove with the mitt, so I’d definitely recommend the Undressed Tans The Nudist Light/ Medium Tanning Lotion if you’re a beginner or haven’t had the best luck with tanning lotions in the past.
